What is the BC Tourism Sustainability Program?
The BC Tourism Sustainability Network (BCTSN) is a collaborative program powered by the BC Regional Tourism Secretariat (BCRTS) in partnership with regional tourism associations 4VI, Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, Kootenay Rockies, Northern British Columbia, Thompson Okanagan, and Vancouver, Coast & Mountains. Beginning in January 2023, the BC Tourism Sustainability Network provides meaningful, one-on-one support and resources to tourism businesses wishing to incorporate sustainability into their operations.
Is my business eligible to participate in the Tourism Sustainability Network?
The BC Tourism Sustainability Network is currently open to tourism businesses and organizations located anywhere in British Columbia, except for the food & beverage, retail and accommodations sectors. Please note that beverage producers, such as wineries, breweries, cideries, RV sites, and campgrounds, are currently eligible for the BCTSN.
What types of services will the program offer to my business?
First, participating businesses are paired with a Program Advisor who completes a needs assessment and creates a customized roadmap to sustainability. This plan includes high-value resource guides and videos to support businesses in their chosen focus areas, such as energy, waste, water, and carbon footprint. Secondly, participants will have access to three exclusive sustainability workshops hosted by experts from Synergy Enterprises. These engaging sessions dive deeper into one of the three core pillars of sustainability – People, Planet, and Prosperity.
What if I haven’t started my sustainability journey yet? What if my business has already undertaken sustainability work or accreditation?
Regardless of prior experience, this streamlined and supportive program helps tourism operators define a clear roadmap to integrate sustainability into their operations, strategy, and storytelling. Your Program Advisor will complete a full Needs Assessment to help determine the right supports for your business.
What other programs are available to help my business?
There is sustainability work underway within all six tourism regions in BC! To learn more about the Biosphere and Greenstep certification programs, as well as other sustainability programs and supports available in your region, please reach out through the Contact page.
